CAEP Background for Consulates
Who We Are
Three organizations make up the CA family of educational programs:
- Communicating for America is the parent, non-profit member organization made up of 100,000 members comprised of small business and farmers/ranchers in the United States and abroad. These are the hosts, our trainees and interns. The CA organization has been in existence for over 35 years in promoting rural education, training, legislation, and health care.
- Communicating for Agriculture Foundation, which has awarded over 2.5 million dollars in scholarships to young people worldwide. This organization is the registered body with the Department of State for J-1 visas.
- CA Education Programs (CAEP) which administrates the training and internship programs on behalf of the foundation.
What We Do
For 25 years CA has hosted over 20,000 young people from 42 countries for J-1 Training and Internships. We are the largest ag training organization in the world.
CA has over 60 country partners worldwide that are contracted with our program. CA provides applied education training and internships in 10 Agriculture related fields.
CA has been a long time advisor to the State Department regarding regulatory issues for J-1s and has received high marks from Congress in our efforts to promote agriculture education:
|
"Mr. Speaker, CA has also been a strong supporter of the education of young people in providing the opportunity to train and experience life and personal growth overseas. Today, the CA education program has become the largest program of its kind in the country." |
Collin Peterson - Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. |
The CA Difference
Our members are our hosts:Every winery, farm, ranch, nursery, business, or other host of CA trainees/interns are members of CA. This means that our hosts have a long term commitment of involvement with our organization not just as a host, but also as a member of our rural advocacy organization.
State of the Art applicant processing: All candidates of our programs are screened via video conferencing by CAEP, complete their applications online, have all documents and contracts processed online, and all communication archived for auditing purposes and quick retrieval.
Skills Validation: From the 7002 training plans, each applicant is validated by their host and coordinator via "skillability" our online skill tracking tool. This tool hosts a permanent online resume, compliments of CA, to show the specific skills that were imparted to the trainee/intern while on our programs.
The skill career paths for our training plans are derived from national and international standards for skills of the specific occupation the individual is pursuing. In the case of U.S. skill standards, the DoL has designated CA as the national skills body for Agriculture career development. CA administers the domestic apprenticeship program on behalf of the DoL using these skills.
One Stop Shop: CA provides benefits to our participants of access to educational courses online before departure, English language courses developed by CA specific to the industry the participant is pursuing, computer purchases, and access to several university curriculums around the U.S. during the training/internship.
Global Citizenship: CA Education Programs promote global skills development. We can assist our students in placement in other countries after return to their homecountry to continue the development of their skills using our International Skills Development Program and network of international hosts.
