Description:
The CAEP domestic apprenticeship program provides Americans opportunities to apprentice with CA member businesses. CAEP apprentices receive employer validation of each skill that is listed as an occupational skill required for that industry according to the Department of Labor (DoL) apprenticeship guidelines. Upon completion of your domestic apprenticeship, you will receive a certificate of completion by the DoL and be eligible to have CAEP place you in international placements to further your skills development. International skills validated in placements will be recognized by CAEP towards the award of an international skills certificate and be registered with the DoL as skills acquired towards completion of a domestic DoL certificate. The end result is worldwide experience, certification by the DoL towards employment opportunities, and opportunities to show potential employers your acquired world-wide skills achievements.
Target audiences include:
* domestic 2 or 4 year students who are looking for validated internship in their current field of study OR qualified individuals who have a strong desire for learning skills within their chosen field through hands-on participation and validation.
* incumbent workers looking to expand their careers through further education and work experience in other related employment.
* international workers desiring education credit AND work credentialed work experience while participating in CAEP programs.
"One must learn by doing the thing; for though you think you know it, you have no certainty until you try."..... Sophocles 445 B.C.
Contextualized learning is a new term for a very old concept – "the best way to learn a thing is by doing the thing". Contextualized learning combines classroom learning with validated work experience - an apprenticeship. When contextualized learning is validated by a hosting business, the DoL recognizes such training in the form of certification. With DoL and CAEP certification, you have a "validated resume" showing confirmation that you not only know the job, but are qualified to DO the job. In Europe, most educational institutions require one to two years of work experience for an individual to receive their educational certificate. CAEP has always participated with this "international apprenticeship". Now CAEP is applying this model and experience to bring the benefits of apprenticeship to domestic workers.
